Shattered Glass Nail Art

The shattered glass nail art trend was a big hit almost a year ago. I did order a sheet of the shattered glass foil then as I wanted to try the look myself, but I forgot the whole thing for quite a while and then I thought I was too late. Couple weeks ago I was browsing through Instagram and came across with this shattered nail art look by The Nailasaurus. It looked so pretty against light base color that I had to immediately try it myself.

First I cut the small pieces from the foil. This was the most challenging part of the manicure, as it's really quite hard to cut such small pieces from a material that just wants to stick to the sides of the scissors. After I had a pile of the small pieces ready, I applied two coats of Essie Peak Show on all my nails. Then, while the polish was still slightly tacky, I started placing the pieces one by one using a small dotting tool that dipped in a clear polish. Finally I just added two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri to make it all smooth and seal the pieces in.

This was fairly easy look to do even with all that meticulous cutting. The one thing you have to be carefully about is that you stick the corners of those little pieces down properly, otherwise they will stick out in now time. You should also use at least the two coats of top coat to seal it all in. I wore this look for three days before I noticed the corners start to stick out more, though looking at these pictures, it looks like I wasn't careful enough sticking those corners down. But still even after they started to stick out, I went with the mani for couple days more, so overall it lasted very well.

I was planning on doing some other simple nail art on my other nails to complement the look, but in the end I just left them like this. I didn't want to steal the attention away from the beautiful shattered glass look. Also, lately I've been all about the saying the simpler the better and leaving the other nails plain certainly suits that.

    1. Kiitos! :) Kokeile ihmeessä, tosin kannattaa varata hieman hyviä hermoja siihen palasien leikkaamiseen. :D
