Beachy Gradient with Water Marbling - Inspired by Ane Li

As most of you may know the nail community lost an amazing member this past summer, the incredibly talented Ane Li @ane_li. She was definitely one of my favorite IG nail artists and she was the inspiration behind this manicure I'm going to share with you guys today.

This beautiful white and clear water marble look on top of a beachy gradient is one of the last looks Ane Li posted on Instagram and I fell in love with the look the minute I saw it. Judging from the comments it has gotten, everyone else loved it too. I wanted to try to do a similar look myself, though I struggled quite a bit finding a clear polish that would work for water marbling.

I started the mani doing two coats with Essie Sand Tropez (yes, once again I'm using Sand Tropez...). Then I did the gradient by sponging four Essies on each nail: Sand Tropez, Blossom Dandy, Garden Variety and Hide & Go Chic.

I also wanted to try the gradient look with matte top coat (L'Oreal Matte Top Coat), just like Ane Li had done too. I really loved it and I actually wore the matte gradient look for couple days alone before adding the water marbling on top.

I haven't done water marbling for ages and I have to say my water marbling skills were a bit rusty. Also, like I said, I struggled quite a bit finding the right combo of clear and white polish that would work for water marbling. It was especially hard finding a clear polish that would work. Pretty much everything seemed to dry immediately when I dropped them into the water and I didn't even try to use any quick drying clear polishes. Finally after I went through my whole stash of regular clear top coats, I managed to find somewhat working combo. The white that I used is Gina Tricot White and the clear polish is Sally Hansen Gel Shine 3D Top Coat. Using this combo I managed to get some sort of water marbling pattern, though still I had to be really really quick and I couldn't do anything too advanced and had to stick with quite simple pattern.

In the end I managed to do the water marbled pattern on all my nails and I really loved the finished look. It reminded me of a summery beach with gentle waves. I also wanted to try the water marble look with matte top coat, so I added a coat of L'Oreal Matte on top.
