Essie Spring 2014 Collection - Swatches and Review

Essie's spring collection last year was probably one of my favourite nail polish collections ever and after receiving it I have found my self using many of the polishes from that collection over and over again. So I was really impatiently expecting to get my hands on this year's spring collection and I was so so happy when I finally got this! L'Oreal Finland send me the whole collection for review and even before doing these swatches I just had to play with the polishes a bit, so I already did a manicure with the namesake of this collection, Hide & Go Chic. I also shared the manicure with you guys, so if you haven't seen it already, be sure to check out this post.

But finally today I have all six polishes from this collection to show you!

Fashion Playground was probably the polish from this collection that I was expecting the most, you know I love these minty colors! These type of pale minty ones are not the easiest ones to apply, but the wide brush made the application doable. I used three thin coats here with base and top coat here, and doing thin coats instead of thick ones made the application easier too. This polish has that gorgeous silver shimmer in it that is typical for quite a few of Essie polishes and it's also the type of shimmer I really love! However, the color of this polish is quite light which means that the shimmer doesn't really show on nail too much, but it's still there and occasionally it flashes when it catches the light. Gorgeous!

Hide & Go Chic is a gorgeous azure blue which to me is clearly bordering to teal. I had somehow overlooked this polish completely but as soon as I saw it live I know I would like it and after I put it on my nails I was in love! This applies like a dream, this could even be one-coater if you apply it carefully. I don't own anything quite like this one, so this is really unique to me! I have two coats here without any base or top coat.

Romper Room is pale petal pink creme and I wasn't really expecting too much from this one because I thought it would be once again the type of pink that wouldn't suit my skintone at all. But to my great surprise, this actually suits me and I finally have a soft petal pink that I can use!!

I loooove the pink from last spring collection, Go Ginza, but this Romper Room is totally different type of pink compared to that one and I have really been missing this type of pink in my collection since pretty much every single one that I have tried has been too warm toned for my skin. With this one you have to work a bit to get it apply nicely, but three thin coats and a good wait time between the coats makes the job a lot easier. Since the color is really perfect for me, I'm willing to give in a bit with the formula.

Spin The Bottle is a neutral nude creme with pinkish tints in the base. This isn't probably the best nude color for me, but still it looked really good. I used three coats here with base and top coat. This was fairly easy one to work with, though to me this was just a tad thick, but it's nothing that a drop or two of nail thinner wouldn't fix.

Style Hunter is really vivid carmine red hue with formula that seems to be a mix of creme and jelly. This is really pigmented so you'll need just two coats for full coverage and that's exactly what I did here (no base or top coat). The polish is very glossy by itself and the color is incredibly vivid.

Truth Or Flare is a beautiful vintage denim blue color, which to me is quite unique color! Unfortunately I had some problems with the formula. This is also a mix between regular creme and a jelly, but unlike Style Hunter, this didn't have too great pigmentation. I needed three coats to make it opaque and the coats were on the thicker side. This unfortunately meant that I ended up with some bubbles, but that might of course be just because I wasn't patient enough between coats. I applied a top coat which helped with the bubble problem.

Essie has once again made quite gorgeous collection and I have to say that I really liked all the colors in this collection, though Truth Or Flare wasn't really too big of a hit for me because of my application issues. My favourite one has to be the namesake polish of this collection, Hide & Go Chic, it's just so gorgeous color and the formula was perfect! I'm sure I'll be using Fashion Playground and Romper room quite a lot too. I also loved the vivid Style Hunter but the nude Spin In Bottle wasn't the perfect match for me, though surely I will also have use for both of them too.

Which one of these Essie spring polishes is your favourite?

Tänään esittelyssä ovat siis Essien uuden kevätkokoelman kaikki kuusi lakkaa, jotka sain testiin blogia varten L'Orealilta. Odotin näitä lakkoja kovasti, sillä Essien viime keväinen kokoelma on varmasti yksi suosikkikokoelmistani ikinä, eikä näidenkään lakkojen kanssa tarvinnut kyllä pettyä.

Mikä näistä keväisistä lakoista on teidän suosikkinne?

*Lakat on saatu arvioitaviksi.

Lisäksi halusin jakaa teille vielä pienen arvontavinkin, nimittäin philosophy finlandin facebook sivut on viimein avattu ja kaikkien sivusta tykänneiden kesken arvotaan 16.6.2014 100 euron arvoinen philosophy tuotepaketti! Itse kävin ainakin heti tykkäämässä ja osallistumassa arvontaan. :)

Mint & Nude Glitter Gradient

I have had this manicure in my drafts for quite some time, because somehow I didn't really like this at all and also the pictures didn't turn out too great either. But I thought I should finally post this one too, so here it goes.

I went to Gina Tricot to get that great white polish that everybody has been raving about, but of course they didn't have any. They did, however, have the gorgeous minty polish again in their selection (Shimmer Mint) that I have been lemming for a while, so of course I had to get that one and I also wanted to give that great pinkish nude, Puff Powder a chance too. People have been really praising Shimmer Mint, so I was expecting something very special from it.

You all probably know where this is going since I started this post saying I didn't like this manicure. So yeah, I have to say that I was really disappointed with this Shimmer Mint. Pretty much everyone has been saying that it has really great quality for a mint and all that, but to me it was too thick. You can get a full coverage with two coats, but you end up with quite thick coats and I really prefer three thin ones over two thick ones. Also, the thick consistency didn't make the application too easy either and I of course ended up with some bubbles... Maybe I'm a bit weird, but I think Essie Mint Candy Apple works way better for me. Of course that shimmer in Shimmer Mint looks really awesome in the bottle, but the formula of the polish was so disappointing that the shimmer couldn't really make up for that.

That pinkish nude, Puff Powder, wasn't too great either. It's really sheer, so I used three coats, but even that didn't give full coverage and once again I ended up with quite a thick coat of polish and some bubbles. Well, this one isn't probably meant for full coverage as it is nude and would work quite nicely in a french manicure, but somehow I thought it would cover better. The color wasn't really right for me either.

Soo, pretty much the only thing I liked about this manicure is that L.A. Girls glitter called Splash. The minty & white mix is beautiful and I love those matte glitters. Somehow I managed to ruin this part of the manicure too as I was going for some type of glitter gradient look, but that's not really what I ended up with.

You aren't probably surprised to hear that I removed this one quite quickly after finishing it?! I guess you can't really get it right every single time and this manicure certainly wasn't meant to happen.

Hopefully I'll have something better to show you next time... :)

*****

Toivottavasti ensi kerralla onnistuu paremmin!

Hide & Go Chic Skittlette

I just got the whole Essie spring Hide and Go Chic collection for review and I'm going to share my swatches of all the polishes with you as soon as I have time to do them, but meanwhile I just had to play with one of these polishes immediately. The minty one looked really delicious, but I decided to go first with the namesake polish of this collection.

So I started this manicure with two coats of Essie Hide & Go Chic for my index, middle and ring fingers. I also wanted to finally test IsaDora's gorgeous Ocean Crush that has been sitting in my helmer for way too long. I used three coats of Ocean Crush for my pinky and thumb nails. Then I just added some white water decals and white dot glitters and of course some top coat and then the manicure was done.

Essie describes this Hide & Go Chic as azure blue but to me it looks slightly petrol color or something between azure blue and petrol. The polish almost applied itself, so yeah, it went on really smoothly and covered nicely with two coats. It also didn't stain at all which is always nice considering that these type of polishes/colors tend to stain. The color is really gorgeous too and also, I have to say that I don't really own anything that would be quite like this one. Love it!

I have bought the water decals (once again) from Born Pretty Store and these were pretty perfect in quality, I have no complaints! The white dot glitters I have gotten from Adenina.

Like I said, Hide & Go Chic was really awesome and I also loved Ocean Crush very much, so this was quite a delightful experience and manicure. I can't wait to try those other Essie spring polishes, I hope they all share this same nice quality!

Here are all the polishes I used for this manicure:
KBShimmer Basic Training
IsaDora Sugar Crush Ocean Crush (pinky and thumb)
Essie Hide & Go Chic
Glisten&Glow HK Girl Top Coat

Sain testiin Essien kuusi kevätkokoelman lakkaa, joista esittelen teille kuvatkin mahdollisimman pian, mutta halusin kuitenkin heti lakat saatuani kokeilla edes yhtä niistä. Pyöreät glitterit on saatu aikoinaan Adeninasta.

*Essien Hide & Go Chic on saatu arvioitavaksi, samoin kuin lakkauksessa käytetyt pyöreät glitterit, muut tuotteet on ostettu itse.

Zoya Myrta

This is the gorgeous one is Zoya Myrta from Zoyas summer 2012 collection. It is a foil with really beautiful soft orange color that leans towards coral. I have two easy coats here with base and top coat. This is quite unique orange as it is quite colorful, but it's not too bright.

I wanted to add just some simple decorations, so I placed some black rose water decals on my ring fingers and my thumbs and one glitter from OPI I Snow You Love Me to the rest of the nails. I only had time to take pictures of this mani after I had worn it for several days, so I have a slight tip wear here, but other than that the manicure lasted really well! Sometimes simple things work just as well!

Tänään vuorossa Zoyan ihanainen Myrta, joka peittää nätisti kahdella kerroksella. Lakka on foil, sävy on kaunis korallinen oranssi.

I Snow You Love Me -lakasta. Joskus yksinkertaisemmatkin koristelut vain toimivat!

Zoyan lakkoja voi ostaa joko suoraan maahantuojalta lähettämällä sähköpostia osoitteeseen info@nailcity.fi (lakkojen kappalehinta on 15,50 euroa) tai useilta jälleenmyyjiltä, NailCityn sivuilta löytyvät kaikki jälleenmyyntipaikat.

*Zoya Myrta on saatu miitistä goodie bagista, muut tuotteet on itse ostettuja.

31DC13 Day 28: Inspired by a flag

Today I'm going to cheat a bit with the challenge as I want to post my flag related manicure while it's still relevant and I haven't had time to do the artwork inspired one yet. So this time day 28 comes before day 27... Don't worry, I'm still going to do that artwork manicure too!

I have done so so many manicures inspired by the Finnish flag and our blue and white colors, so this time I wanted to do something different. You all probably know that the European Parliament elections are just around the corner and the Europe Day was also just recently, so this time I chose to be inspired by the Flag of Europe.

My inspiration and my interpretation is quite literal, but I had never done any EU flag inspired nails before, so that's why I chose to do them quite litereally. My blue base is OPI Dating a Royal and I did the 12 stars using the same metallic stars I also used in this manicure. This time I just colored the inside of the stars using a fine nail art brush and OPI Love Angel Music Baby. Unfortunately I didn't have gold stars, only silver ones and I also had the same difficulty of those points of stars sticking out, so it was a bit difficult to color them neatly. But at least the inspiration shows, right?!

I really liked this manicure and I would have probably weared it for many days if those points of the stars just would have stayed where they needed to stay. But they didn't and they they constantly got stuck on everything and also scratched everything, so I unfortunately couldn't wear this for long. This would have been the perfect manicure to wear last week since I've been working with the early votings here in Finland!

Also, with this manicure I wanted remind all my European readers that the European Elections are going to happen on 22-25 May, so be sure that you all remeber to vote! :))

*****

Lemon-Lime Sorbet

I have another Jenkki chewing gum manicure to share with you guys today! If you missed the first one you can check it out here.

For my first gum manicure I took the inspiration from the package and the gums. For this one I also took the inspiration from the colors of the package, but this time I tried to do something little bit different, so that the two manis wouldn't end up looking just the same with a bit different colors. I kinda used all my nail art ideas for the first pink manicure and I wanted to this one a bit differently, so I decided to some water marbling.

I only own two yellow polishes (OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana and L'Oreal Lemon Meringue), so I just had to use those two for this manicure. I also wanted one yellow that would lean more towards orange, but I didn't own any, so I decided to mix one myself. I used Essence Wanna Be Your Sunshine and little bit of China Glaze Papaya Punch to make the mix. For the accent ring finger I also used Essie Mojito Madness. Mojito Madness and Cope-acabana worked just fine in the water marbling, but the L'Oreal one and my own mix weren't really the best possible polishes for it, but I had to use those since I didn't have anything else that would suit the color scheme. This is probably the reason why the water marbling didn't turn out too good either, but at least the nails suited the theme.

I also added some dots here and there using a dotting tool and all the polishes. It seems that it's impossible for me to do a water marbling manicure without topping the nails with something sparkly... So I had to add just a little bit of KBShimmer I Only Have Ice For You to each nail. Yellow isn't really my color when it comes to nail polish, so I didn't feel quite right in these nails, but somehow I still liked this manicure.

By the way, the chewing gum that inspired these nails is new Jenkki flavor lemon-lime sorbet and those are really really tasty ones!

Disclosure: I have originally gotten L'Oreal Lemon Meringue for review, the other polishes used in this post I have bought myself. This manicure is done for our meet sponsor, so the chewing gums were also sent for us because of this. For more information view my disclosure policy.

*****

Vesimarmoroinnissa käytin kaikkia omistamiani keltaisia lakkoja eli OPIn I Just Can't Cope-acabanaa ja L'Orealin Lemon Meringueta. Marmoroinnin jälkeen lisäilin sinne tänne pilkkuja dotting toolilla ja marmoroinnissakin käytetyillä lakoilla sekä hieman säihkettä levittämällä päälle kerroksen KBShimmerin I Only Have Ice For You -topperia.

*L'Orealin Lemon Meringue on saatu alunperin arvioitavaksi. Purkkamanikyyri on toteutettu Cloettalle miittisponsoroinnin tiimoilta ja luonnollisesti myös postauksessa esiintyvät purkat on saatu tätä tarkoitusta varten.

Cirque Vaudeville

Today I have the gorgeous Cirque Vaudeville to share with you guys!

Vaudeville is a gorgeous muted lavender with gold/turquoise shimmer. This is a bit patchy with the first and second coat, but third coat gave great coverage and it also evened everything out nicely.

You all probably already know that I loooove polishes with this type of shimmer and this isn't an esception! The muted lavender base is so beautiful and the shimmer makes the polish just perfect. Just couple of days ago I shared with you my Cadillacquer Pinkman manicure and the shimmer in Vaudeville is really similar to that one. These are pretty much like sister polishes, just with a different kind of colors. And I really love both of these polishes!

I bought this Vaudeville and another Cirque polish called Sanguine from Edgy Polish, but this is only the second Cirque lacquer that I have ever tried. I'm really loving the brand though, so I think I need to get some more of these! Do you guys have any must-haves from Cirque except this Vaudeville one, Sanguine and XX?

Disclosure: I bought this polish myself so I have nothing to disclose. . For more information view my disclosure policy.

*****

Vaudevillen tilailin Edgyltä toisen Criquen lakan, Sanguinen kera.

31DC13 Day 26: Inspired by a pattern

It's almost two months since I posted my last challenge mani, oops! So it's about time to post another one, so that I can maybe even some day finish this challenge... Today's task was about pattern and my inspiration came from a chewing gum package.

Katjamaria, Misify and I did couple different nail art and make-up looks for one of our meet sponsors, Cloetta. Katjamaria did the make up part and me and Misify did those nail art parts. I thought this would work perfectly as my pattern inspiration manicure since I took the inspiration from the patterns in that chewing gum package.

These gum-nails that I'm showing you today were inspired by one of the two Jenkki novelty flavors, Raspberry Sorbet. These chewing gums are actually quite fun, they look like candy and I quite liked these raspberry ones, though I have to say that the another flavor was my favourite, but I'll tell you more about that in another post. ;)

I used IsaDora Bon Bon, Kiko Sugar Mat Hot Pink and Essie Go Ginza for these nails. Since I wanted the dots to go from lighter pink to darker pink I also mixed the middle color from Bon Bon and Hot Pink, though that kinda turned out a bit more dark pink than I would have wanted. So the base color in my index finger is Bon Bon and the stripes are done with Hot Pink and the mix of Hot Pink and Bon Bon. In my pinky nail the base color is the Kiko one and the stripes are done with Bon Bon and the mixed one. In my middle and ring finger nails the base color is Essie Go Ginza and the dots are done with both of the texture polish and the mixed one, of course using a dotting tool. Those stripes I painted with a nail art brush.

This didn't really turn out like I planned it, but still I liked this manicure quite a lot. This ended up being quite fun and bright look and I'd say the inspiration is quite obvious. The other two girls also posted their gorgeous raspberry sorbet looks already, so you can check out Misify's raspberry nails here and Katjamaria's raspberry sorbet look here.

My pattern inspired mani two years ago was the same one that I also did as fashion inspired as well as artwork inspired mani. You can check out the post here.

Disclosure: I have originally gotten IsaDora Bon Bon for review, the other polishes used in this post I have bought myself. This manicure is done for our meet sponsor, so the chewing gums were also sent for us because of this. For more information view my disclosure policy.

Inspiraatio kynsiin on siis luonnollisesti saatu tuosta uutuuspurkkapussista, jonka makuna on Raspberry Sorbet.

*IsaDoran Bon Bon on saatu alunperin arvioitavaksi. Purkkamanikyyri on toteutettu Cloettalle miittisponsoroinnin tiimoilta ja luonnollisesti myös postauksessa esiintyvät purkat on saatu tätä tarkoitusta varten.

Cadillacquer Pinkman

I have a simple manicure with a very gorgeous polish to show you guys today!

This beauty is of course Cadillacquer Pinkman. I have three easy coats here, but I think this would easily cover shorter nails with two coats. The formula was really nice, the polish is quite thick, but not too much and it's really easy to apply.

I really love this light pink color and especially that golden glass fleck shimmer, it's so gorgeous! I have had this polish in my wishlist for so long and I can't really even understand myself why I waited so long to get this one. If you are still pondering wether you should get this or not, I say go for it! If you like pink polish even a little, you should have this one!

I didn't want to cover the gorgeous polish too much, so I just decided to add some black and white flower decals and some rainbow nail crystals.

I really loved this polish and this manicure so much!

*****

Tänään vuorossa aivan upea Cadillacquerin Pinkman manikyyri. Pinkman on keikkunut toivelistalla jo todella pitkään enkä kyllä käsitä, miksi odotin niin pitkään tämän hankkimista. Lakka on ihan mieletön! Tuo väri on todella kaunis ja kultainen shimmer kruunaa ehdottomasti tämän lakan.

Kuvissa lakkaa on kolme vaivatonta kerrosta, lyhyemmät kynnet peittyvät varmasti jo kahdella.

Zoya Spring Magical Pixie Cosmo and Vega

Today I have two gorgeous Zoya PixieDust polishes to share with you guys. Cosmo and Vega are both from the spring Magical Pixie collection and they are a bit different from those previous PixieDusts since they are chunkier and they also have bigger holographic hex glitters in them.

Originally I didn't really know what to think about these and if I should even get these because honestly these rough Magical Pixies don't look so good in pictures. I got some Zoya sping polishes for review and I decided to ask for at least one of these, since I wanted to try them out myself. NailCity send me these two and I'm so happy that they did! I wouldn't have probably tried these otherwise and I would have missed all that amazing sparkle. These are certainly the type of polishes that you really need to try yourself to see their true beauty.

Like I said, these are way more chunkier than regular PixieDust have been, so you'll need to apply them a bit differently. I did one regular coat first and then I applied second coat dabbing the polish more to those spots that needed more coverage. As the finish is so rough, it doesn't really matter how unevenly you apply these. With this type of method I didn't have any problems with the application. There isn't of course any top coat in these pictures, but I didn't use any base coat either.

Cosmo is a silver one with those holographic hexes. This is the one that I ended up asking since (can you believe it) I didn't own any silver textured polishes before this one. I do have quite a collection of textured polishes, but the silver ones have always felt a bit dull. I thought I should finally get at least one silver and Cosmo seemed like a good choice since it's way more interesting than just a regular silver texture with those hexes and the rough finish.

I'm really glad that I finally have one silver texture and furthermore such gorgeous one. This really sparkles like crazy. I love it! I think this will also work perfectly as a accent nail polish for all sorts of skittlettes and such.

Vega is a muted light-medium blue with those same holographic hexes. Zoya describes this as a blue opal sparkle. Vega has a bit better coverage than Cosmo, but it isn't a big difference. I originally asked only for Cosmo since I though I already had too many blue and pink textures, but I'm really happy that I got this one also as I have to say that I don't have anything similar even just by color.

Vega has also really gorgeous sparkle, that doesn't unfortunately translate into the pictures. So gorgeous!

Zoya has done three MagicalPixies for summer too and now I'm really beginning to think that I'm going to have to pick up some of those, since these two are so gorgeous. I'm always thinking that I already have enough textured polishes in my stash, but I guess couple more won't hurt, right?

Did you guys pick up any of these spring MagicalPixies? Which one is your favourite and are you going to get any of those summer shades?

Disclosure: I have gotten the polishes for review. For more information view my disclosure policy.

Mikä niistä on teidän suosikki? Entä aiotteko hommata kesän sävyjä?

Zoyan lakkoja voi ostaa joko suoraan maahantuojalta lähettämällä sähköpostia osoitteeseen info@nailcity.fi (lakkojen kappalehinta on 15,50 euroa) tai useilta jälleenmyyjiltä, NailCityn sivuilta löytyvät kaikki jälleenmyyntipaikat.
*Lakat on saatu arvioitaviksi.

May Livbox and small hauls from iHerb, Edgy Polish and Cadillacquer

I haven't posted any hauls for while here in my blog, so I thought I'd share little something here too as well as what was inside of this month's Livbox.

In my birthday giveaway I had couple Livbox prices for the winners and I also got a three month subscription to myself too, which was really awesome! I have written before about couple of these boxes, but since then I have ordered them few times myself too, but somehow I never posted about these. I really liked this month's box, so I thought I would share it with you guys too!

So if you don't know already, Livbox is a Finnish version of Glossybox concept, so in short you get some cosmetic products and samples each month in a surprise box. I really like the idea and the surprise is always nice! Here's what was inside of the box this month:

Aco Sun Cerat SPF30
5g (full size)
I'm not too good of using lipbalms or anything like that, but this is really great one to have for summer. I will certainly use this one!

Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer SPF30
7ml (sample)
+ gift certificate
This promises to smooth away fine lines, brighten and prime for flawless skin and to prep for make-up application. I'm always interested in trying out new primers and this seems like a very interesting one. It's also quite expensive, so I wouldn't probably buy it for its full price, so it's really great to get to try it.

Dolce & Gabbana Dolce EdP
 1.5ml (sample)
It's always lovely to try out new fragrances and this seems like one that I quite like, though it might be just a bit too flowery for me, but I will certainly use this sample still.

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Color in Bride To Be
13.3ml (full size)
I'm of course excited to get a nail polish from the box, but unfortunately this isn't really my color. Nevertheless, I will still give it a try.

Paese Blush with Argan Oil
I was in a need for blush with this type of color, so I really liked this one! I have never tried anything from Paese, so it's nice to give it a try.

Cutrin Reflection Color Boost shampoo and conditioner
50ml each (samples)
These will certainly go to use! I have tried some products from Cutrin and I have liked them, so I hope these will be really good ones too.

Ibero earrings
These are not my style at all, so I don't really know what I'm going to do with these. It's not a bad idea to have some accessories in the box too, but I would probably prefer cosmetics.

So all in all I really liked this box and the majority of the products will certainly go to use. I hope the two girls that won the boxes from my giveaway liked their boxes too!

We always order our vitamins from iHerb, but this time I also included some beauty products to the order. These were pretty much all inspired by Oot Meikannut! since she has done some nice iHerb haul posts and started just doing iHerb post series too with a Ecotool post. I've always thought that it's a bit hard to find any products from iHerb if you don't know exactly what you are looking for since there's so many different brands and products there. So it's always nice to read tips from other blogs on what to order and Anna's posts made it easy to find all these products.

In addition to all these cosmetics, I've also bought some polishes. The Cirque ones are Sanguine and Vaudeville, and I bought them from Edgy Polish. The three Cadillacquers are Yeah Science!, Pinkman and She's One Of A Kind and these are bought from Cadillacquer's own store. Cirque Vaudeville and those three Cadillacquers have been on my wishlist for ages, so I'm soooo happy that I finally got them! Sanguine was an impulse buy, but it looks pretty great too, can't wait to try all of these!

What do you guys think of my hauls?

Disclosure: I have gotten the Livbox because of my collaboration with them, all the other products I have bought myself.

She's One Of A Kind.

Livbox on saatu yhteistyön myötä, muut tuotteet on ostettu itse.
