OPI Satins vs. Sally Hansen Satin Glams

I have two comparisons for you guys today! As a part of the Gwen Stefani collection OPI released two Satin finish polishes in black and gold: 4 In The Morning and Love. Angel. Music. Baby., and a bit after that also Sally Hansen released two polishes in a quite similar colors with the similar satin finish (they call it Satin Glam): Silk Onyx and Go Gold. Neither of these are really dupes, but they are somewhat similar, so I decided to do some comparison pictures for you guys.

Let's start with the black ones!

I have two coats of both of the polishes here, no base or top coat. As you can see, 4 In The Morning looks darker and just pretty much a plain black compared to Silk Onyx. There's quite a lot of shimmer in Silk Onyx and the shimmer shines in different colors, so the overall look of the polish isn't as black as in 4 In The Morning. Actually, Silk Onyx looks more like a grey one here.

I prefer the OPI brush and bottle over the Sally Hansen ones, but even for my own surprise, I have to say that I liked the Sally Hansen one better. I don't really like to wear black polishes or really dark polishes that look almost black. If I wear a black(ish) polish, I prefer it with some sort of shimmer or something, so it looks at least a bit more lighter, so that's pretty much the main reason I prefered the Sally Hansen one. 4 In The Morning looks just too black for me. Also, the shimmer in Silk Onyx is really beautiful!

Then let's look at the gold ones!

Again, I have two coats of both polishes here, no base or top coat. These are more similar shimmer-wise as there's shimmer in both of these, but the Sally Hansen one has a bit more shimmer in it. Also like I said in my swatch post about these Sally Hansen Satin Glams, Go Gold isn't really a true gold color, to me it looks more like a bronze one and compared to LAMB it doesn't look gold either. Neither one of these polishes aren't too warm toned golds, so they both suit my skintone quite well.

If I'd had to choose the best gold one out of these two it would definately be LAMB, but I also like Go Gold very much as the color it is. So I can't really choose a favourite out of these two, I love them both!

*****

Tänään vertailussa mustat ja kultaiset satiinilakat: OPIn Gwen Stefani kokoelman 4 In The Morning ja Love. Angel. Music.

Silk Onyxin shimmer saa lakan näyttämään paljon vaalemmalta verrattuna OPIn versioon.

Nail Polish Battle Essie Naughty Nautical vs. Zoya Zuza and Essie Mojito Madness and Zoya Josie

I have two Nail Polish Battles for you guys today and they are both between Essie and Zoya polishes: first battle is between Essie Naughty Nautical and Zoya Zuza, and the second one is between Essie Mojito Madness and Zoya Josie.

So the first pair, Zoya Zuza and Essie Naughty Nautical, both have similar base color, but they are still quite different. Zuza has way more shimmer in it and Naughty Nautical looks almost like a creme compared to it. Of course there's also some shimmer in Naughty Nautical too, but it's quite subtle. However, the subtle shimmer still visible on nail too. I used two coats of each polish here and they both cover nicely and they are both really easy to apply.

Final verdict: I'm going to keep both as I looooove this color and they are different enough for me.

Essie Mojito Madness and Zoya Josie are both gorgeous green cremes. They are quite similar, but not dupes. Mojito Madness is a tad darker and cooler toned whereas Josie seems to have just bit more yellow in it. Both of these cover with two easy coats and the formula is quite similar in these. I'd say that Mojito Maddness has a bit thicker formula, but there's not really a big difference.

Final verdict: Essie Mojito Madness wins as it's a tad cooler toned, so it suits my skintone just a bit better.

Which ones did you guys prefer?

*****

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Swatches and Review

Today I have Sally Hansen Satin Glam collection swatches and review for you guys! I have six out of the eight polishes to share with you.

I have done all the swatches without any base or top coat. All these polishes dry to a gorgeous satin matte finish, but of course you can also apply some top coat over these to make them shiny. In my opinion the satin finish is really gorgeous!

Go Gold (01) 2 coats

This is really gorgeous color, though I wouldn't say that this is golden. To me this looked more like a bronze or a mix of silver and gold. I don't mind at all that it's not too golden, I have some issues with too warm gold color as they don't suit my skintone very well, but this suited me perfectly.

Crystalline (02) 3 coats

Crystalline has a white base with oh-so-pretty shimmer. The shimmer looks quite blue in some angles and I can't really describe it. I had to take a macro shot to show you guys how gorgeous this one looks:
I'd say this is quite a perfect polish for cold winter days as the polish is really icy looking. This was, however, quite sheer, so even with three coats there was some visible nail line left.

Chic Pink (05) 3 coats

Chic Pink is a really nice bright one, but unfortunately this doesn't suit my skintone at all. It's too warm pink for me. This one was also a bit sheer, I had to use three coats for full coverage.

Teal Tulle (06) 2 coats

Teal Tulle is also an awesome bright color and this one I liked very much! This had quite a perfect formula and it covered with two easy coats. The satin finish with this one looks really amazing!

Taffeta (07) 2 coats

Taffeta is gorgeous purple, but somehow I didn't enjoy this one as much as Teal Tulle. I think the shine in Teal Tulle was so gorgeous and to me this one isn't just as interesting because the shine and shimmer isn't as pretty here. But it's still a nice color and it also had quite nice formula, two easy coats for full coverage.

Silk Onyx (08) 2 coats

Silk Onyx is a gorgous black with, again, that similar pretty shimmer. The shimmer in this one shines in different colors and it's really gorgeous! This is a bit similar with OPI 4 In the Morning, but of course this Sally Hansen one has more shimmer in it. I have comparison with these two coming up next week for you guys.

I'd say this is a really interesting collection from Sally Hansen and I really like the finish! These dry quite quickly, so you can definately wear them without any top coat. The ones that I had to apply three coats (Crystalline and Chic Pink) took a bit more time to dry. The only thing I didn't like about these is the bottle. The bottle is slightly smaller and slimmer than previous Sally Hansen bottles, so it seems like these are likely to fall over, but at least I managed to do these swatches without making any mess. Other than that these were really great!

I'd say my favourites are Go Gold, Crystalline and Teal Tulle. Silk Onyx is also a gorgeous one as is Taffeta too, but unfortunately Chic Pink didn't work for me.

Which one is your favourite?

*The polishes in this post were sent for me to review, for more information see my disclosure policy.

*****

Tänään esittelyssä Sally Hansenin Satin Glam kokoelman kuusi lakkaa. Kaikissa lakoissa erikoisuutena on satiininen lookki eli nämä kuivuvat kauniin mattaisen shimmerisiksi.

Omiksi suosikeiksi näistä nousivat Go Gold, Crystalline ja Teal Tulle.

Mikä näistä on teidän suosikkinne?

Essie Summer 2013 Collection: Swatches and Review

It's the middle of the winter so it's prefect time to post some swatches of Essie's last summer Naughty Nautical collection, right?! Well maybe not, but I thought I'd share all these in this one post as I have gradually gotten all the polishes from this collection. I already shared two of these swatches last summer, but the other four swatches you haven't seen here yet.

Also, this was really one of my favourite 2013 collections and I do like every single one of these polishes. I have gotten three of these for review from L'Oreal Finland and the other three I bought myself.

All of the swatches are without base or top coat if I don't state otherwise.

Full Steam Ahead (3 coats with base and top coat) is a cool-leaning lavender wiht subtle shimmer. This is slightly streaky, but it's also quite self-leveling, so it's still pretty easy to work with. I love this one so much! The combination of the shade and the shimmer is perfect and I have used this one quite a lot already. It could have a slightly better formula, but with the wide European Essie brush this is still workable.

Naughty Nautical (2 coats) is a vivid turquoise/teal shade with subtle shimmer. This has quite nice formula and it's really easy to apply. I have the thinner brush version of this one and it's still very easy to work with. I love the bright and vivid color and I've used this one too for quite many manicures. I haven't worn this alone, but I've heard that this might stain your nails, so be sure to apply your base coat carefully with this one.

Rock The Boat (3 coats) is pale and little bit dusty sky blue shade with subtle shimmer. This is probably my favourite light blue shade, I'm just a sucker for that gorgeous subtle shimmer. This has quite similar formula than Full Steam Ahead and this is a bit sheer, but with the wider brush this is also a workable one.

Sunday Funday (2 coats) is a coral hue with subtle shimmer. I used two coats here, but for longer nails third coat might be necessary to get full coverage. This isn't as sheer as Full Steam Ahead or Rock The Boat are, so it coveres quite well with just two coats. This is finally a coral shade that suits me and my skintone at least a bit!

The Girls Are Out (2 coats with base and top coat) is a magenta/fuchsia shade with the similar subtle shimmer. This has a really great formula and pigmentation and I think it's a shade that suits nicely many different skintones.

The More The Merrier (3 thin coats) is a bright lime green creme - the only polish from this collection that doesn't have that subtle shimmer. I kinda wish this would have had the same shimmer, but I do like the color even without that. This was a bit on the thick side, but it was also very self-leveling, so it was quite easy to apply.

I'd say my favourites from this collection are the first three, Full Steam Ahead, Naughty Nautical and Rock The Boat, but the other three are also really great ones. I think the collection and the colors work really well together and I'm just smitten with that shimmer. I just wish The More The Merrier would have had that too! All the shades are really summery ones, but they also work well in other seasons too. Like I said, this is one of my favourite collections from last year, so I don't really have anything too negative to say about this one. Hopefully Essie will do some great collections this year too!

Which ones do you guys like the most?

Näin (ainakin jossain määrin) talvisten kelien keskellä on hyvä hetki esitellä viime vuoden kesäkokoelma, eikö vaan?!

Valentine's Day Drag Marble

Yesterday I showed a quick tutorial of Valentine's day drag marble and today I have the full manicure I did with that technique to share with you guys. This was really a quick manicure as I didn't have time to do anything too special and this time I also didn't want to do a traditional pink/red manicure.

Those drag marbling hearts didn't turn out too great this time, mainly because it was hard to do them quickly as I had to take pictures at the same time for the tutorial. But then again, it's kinda the point of this manicure that those hearts aren't too obvious.

I used Cadillacquer He Saw She Saw for my index and pinky nails and I did those drag marble nails with Essie Warm & Toasty Turtleneck and Parka Perfect. I certainly didn't use the most traditional Valentine's Day colors for this manicure, but I think this will do anyhow. Or what do you guys think?

Happy Valentine's Day to all you guys!

Valentine's Day Drag Marble Nail Art Tutorial

I have a really quick Valentine's day nail art tutorial for you guys today. I wanted to use the drag marble technique for my own Valentine's day nail art and I decided to do a quick tutorial of this technique for you guys too.

Drag marbling is really easy nail art technique and the main thing you need to remember is to have enough polish on your nail. If you have too little, it's really impossible to do the dragging easily and neatly. Also you need to do this one nail at a time, so that the polish doesn't dry before you do the marbling. Because I was doing this for Valentine's day I tried to do something that reminds a bit of hearts, but of course you can use this technique to do some other pattern too. I have done one Valentine's day manicure with this technique before, you can check it out here. I have also done some other drag marble manicures, for example this one and this one.

I hope this tutorial was helpful, though looking at these pictures I should have chosen some other colors so that you could see them better. But I hope you can still see something from this too. I'll show you the whole manicure that I did for Valentine's day tomorrow.

KBShimmer Winter 2013 Collection Swatches

Today I have my picks from the KBShimmer winter 2013 collection to share with you guys. KBShimmer is really one of my favourite brands and I thought this winter collection was pretty awesome. I ended up buying total of six polishes from the collection and I'm gonna show five of those to you today. I have quite a lot of pictures to share with you guys as these pretty polishes really deserve more than just one picture.

Green Hex and Glam is a green jelly with holographic hex glitter in various sizes. I just love love love KBShimmer I Got A Crush On Blue and since this is pretty much the green version of that same polish, I had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me in green like the blue one did. It's unquestionably a gorgeous polish and if you like green, I'm sure you'll love this one. I think I'm going to stick with my beloved blue one.

I used three coats here with base and top coat. This is a bit sheer because of the jelly base, but you can still easily build it up for full opacity. The formula was nice and easy to work with, though like with all large glitters, you'll need to fish a bit for those biggest ones.

I also wanted to see how Green Hex and Glam would look matte, so I applied a coat of matte top coat over it:
I prefer the shiny version, but it did look quite interesting matte too.

Maybe Navy is a shimmering navy blue. Those shimmer flakes shine also in purple and in some lights pink. This reminds me a bit of KBShimmer fall collection polish called Teal Another Tail as there's maybe something similar in these two and that subtle duochrome effect they have. This has a great formula, I used two easy coats here, no base or top coat.

Myth You Lots is a really interesting one as it is a holographic multichrome. Unfortunately I didn't have any sunlight available to really capture the holo effect, but you can still see it a bit here too. Just keep in mind that it really is much stronger in real life. The multichrome shifts between purple, blue, red and more. It's really one of those polishes that you have to see your self! I used three easy coats here, no base or top coat. This one can also be layered over black or some other colors, I think I'll need to try that out next.

Snow Flaking Way was one of the two polishes from this collection that first seemed impossible to get as it was always sold out immediately. I finally managed to get it and I'm really glad I did. I was a bit worried that this wouldn't work for me as my nails are quite curved and those snowflake glitters are quite big, but it worked just fine. I used three coats here with a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food (to even out those flakes) and a coat of top coat. Those snowflakes are quite large ones, so you'll need to fish for them a bit, but there's plenty of them in the bottle, so it's not impossible to get them on your nails. It also helps to turn the bottle upside down for a while before applying the polish.

I'm a big fan of circle glitter, so Will Yule Marry Me? seemed like a really interesting and unique polish to me. It's a really dusty navy blue with silver and holographic hex and circle glitter. It dries a tad darker on nail than it is in the bottle. I wish this would have been more towards a blue navy than what it is, as to me it looks pretty much like a dark grey one instead of the navy. Also, I would have probably liked it more if it wouldn't dry as dark as it does. It's still a really pretty one, but it wasn't my favourite. The formula with this one was pretty nice though I struggled a bit to get those little bit bigger circle glitters on nail. I used two coats here, no base or top coat.
My favourites from these were Myth You Lots and Snow Flaking Way, but the other three are also quite interesting and unique polishes too. There are actually quite many more unique ones in the KBShimmer winter collection! However, like I said in the beginning of this post, I got six polishes from this collection and to me the real star of the collection is the oh-so-gorgeous topper I Only Have Ice For You. I have used that one for quite many manicures already, for example here and here.

Which one was your favourite polish from the entire collection?

If you live in the US you can pick these up at KBShimmer.com, if not, then you'll need to do as I do and buy yours from Harlow & Co. I have bought all these polishes myself and I don't gain anything if you use the links, their here just to help you guys.

*****

Suosikeiksi viidestä tässä esitellystä nousivat Myth You Lots ja Snow Flaking Way. Tosin ehdoton suosikkini tästä talvikokoelmasta on upean kaunis topperi I Only Have Ice For You, jota olenkin käyttänyt jo useammassa lakkauksessa, esim. täällä ja täällä.

Mikä tämän talvikokoelman lakoista oli teidän suosikkinne?

KBShimmereitä voi tilata Harlow&Co:lta, josta itsekin omat KBShimmer lakkani aina hankin.
