Mint & Nude Glitter Gradient

I have had this manicure in my drafts for quite some time, because somehow I didn't really like this at all and also the pictures didn't turn out too great either. But I thought I should finally post this one too, so here it goes.

I went to Gina Tricot to get that great white polish that everybody has been raving about, but of course they didn't have any. They did, however, have the gorgeous minty polish again in their selection (Shimmer Mint) that I have been lemming for a while, so of course I had to get that one and I also wanted to give that great pinkish nude, Puff Powder a chance too. People have been really praising Shimmer Mint, so I was expecting something very special from it.

You all probably know where this is going since I started this post saying I didn't like this manicure. So yeah, I have to say that I was really disappointed with this Shimmer Mint. Pretty much everyone has been saying that it has really great quality for a mint and all that, but to me it was too thick. You can get a full coverage with two coats, but you end up with quite thick coats and I really prefer three thin ones over two thick ones. Also, the thick consistency didn't make the application too easy either and I of course ended up with some bubbles... Maybe I'm a bit weird, but I think Essie Mint Candy Apple works way better for me. Of course that shimmer in Shimmer Mint looks really awesome in the bottle, but the formula of the polish was so disappointing that the shimmer couldn't really make up for that.

That pinkish nude, Puff Powder, wasn't too great either. It's really sheer, so I used three coats, but even that didn't give full coverage and once again I ended up with quite a thick coat of polish and some bubbles. Well, this one isn't probably meant for full coverage as it is nude and would work quite nicely in a french manicure, but somehow I thought it would cover better. The color wasn't really right for me either.

Soo, pretty much the only thing I liked about this manicure is that L.A. Girls glitter called Splash. The minty & white mix is beautiful and I love those matte glitters. Somehow I managed to ruin this part of the manicure too as I was going for some type of glitter gradient look, but that's not really what I ended up with.

You aren't probably surprised to hear that I removed this one quite quickly after finishing it?! I guess you can't really get it right every single time and this manicure certainly wasn't meant to happen.

Hopefully I'll have something better to show you next time... :)

*****

Toivottavasti ensi kerralla onnistuu paremmin!

  4. Vaikka ehkä lakat eivät käyttäytyneetkään hyvin, lopputulos on kuitenkin aivan fantastinen!

  6. I know just what you mean! In theory, this mani would be to die for but on the nails it.. just fall flat somehow :s
But I think the gina nailpolishes are a lottery, some of them are pretty good and do what they should and others are just a nightmare to work with! There is no balance.

I truly love the colours tho :)

    1. Yeah, normally I wouldn't probably expect too much from the polishes but I had heard some many good things about Shimmer Mint, so probably my expectations were quite high in the beginning. I should try something similar with some other polishes, since I also like the color combo very much! :)

  9. So sorry to read your lemming became some sort of nightmare :(
Let me tell you, though, all those cons are almost unnoticeable in your pictures, the final look is not that bad...well, actually I think it's pretty in the end. But I can see why you're disappointed, given that your expectations were completely different.
BTW, those glitters are too big to achieve a gradient as we're used to think of, your gradient effect is great, not a mess at all!

    1. Yeah, I think maybe my expectations were too high in the first place. The color combination looks really great though, so I'll need to try that again with some different polishes!

You're right about those glitters too. I could have maybe done it better, if I would have just tried to get more of those smaller ones and just couple bigger ones. But there's nothing wrong with that glitter topper, in fact it's really beautiful one! :)

  12. The minty and white mix is really super pretty. I super liked it. I guess I have to pick other background color which has a nice coverage.
