31DC13 Day 16: Tribal Print

Aaaand I'm continuing with the challenge to day 16 and tribal print. This was pretty much the hardest day for me as I had to spent quite some time figuring out what should I do. I had some trouble with this one last time I did the challenge too and I finally then gave in and just painted some black tribal print over brown base. Pretty much all the challenge manis that I've seen for this day have had some colorful tribal print in them and that's of course ok, but I just didn't want to do that. I'm not the biggest fan of that type of tribal print anyways and I'm probably a bit weird as to me it often looks more like Easter egg paintings than tribal print... Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of really awesome tribal print nail art out there, but like with the animal print day, I just didn't want to do the most obvious thing. So I did quite some googling and I finally found this picture and I pretty much stole the idea from there. I didn't want to do the same thing for all my nails though, so I also borrowed Nailside's awesome tribal print idea and used that for my thumb, index and pinky nails.

Yep, I know this is quite funny looking mani, but at least I tried to do something different, right?! This didn't really turn out excactly like I pictured it and of course I managed to also smudge some of the design with the top coat, but still this was quite fun to do and also to wear!

I started this mani with two coats of Essie Sand Tropez and then I painted the nail art with Essie Licorice. Of course the original picture where I got my idea was so much better looking and I didn't really manage to capture the idea like I wanted to, but you still (maybe) get the idea from this too...?

31DC13 Day 15: Delicate Print

Hi guys, I'm continuing with the challenge! It's day 15 and so the task was to do some delicate print. This was a bit hard task for me as the obvious choice for this day would probably be some stamping, but since I don't do that so well and I also already did that two years ago for this day, I wanted to do something else. So I went with some water decals, which was pretty much (again) the easiest way, but lately I have bought and also gotten quite few water decals, so I kinda have to use them...

I started this mani with three coats of OPI Mermaid's Tears. Then I used those white lace water decals for all but my ring finger nails. I also dabbed some I Love Nails Polish Teal Me Please and a-england Merlin on top of those decals and I topped my accent nails with OPI Pure 18K White Gold & Silver Top Coat. The decals are from Born Pretty Store, but I have bought them myself.

This was quite a simple mani, but I still liked it very much, though unfortunately for some reason the polishes in my middle finger nail bubbled quite a bit and I really hate when that happens!

I also took some pictures for you guys without those glitters on top, so that you can see the decals better:

Nail Tek Foundation II
OPI Mermaid's Tears 3 coats
OPI Pure 1 coat (ring finger)
water decals, ILNP Teal Me Please and a-england Merlin
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri

Like I said, I did some stamping for this challenge two years ago:
My stamping skills aren't really too good, but I still managed to get something done, you can check out the full post here.

So tell me guys, did you prefer the water decals mani or the stamping mani?

*****

Siirtokuvien päälle tuputtelin ihan vähän I Love Nail Polishin Teal Me Pleasea ja a-englandin Merliniä.

Nail Polish Battles: Zoya Channing vs. China Glaze Bend Over Backwards and Flormar JG453 vs. China Glaze Riveting

I have two Nail Polish Battles for you guys today, this time they both are with some pretty great orange polishes. But let's start with a battle between Zoya and China Glaze:

When I tried on Zoya Channing* from Zoya's fall 2013 collection, it made me immediately think of China Glaze Bend Over Backwards from China Glaze's Cirque Du Soleil 2012 collection. I compared the bottles side by side and they do look quite different in the bottles already, but I still decided to but them on nail side by side too, just to see if I needed to keep them both or if I could maybe get rid of one of the two.

So like in the bottle, on nail these two are definately not dupes. They are different colorwise and also the shimmer in them is bit different, as the shimmer in Bend Over Backwards is more fine and the shimmer in Channing is a bit more coarse. Colorwise they both have that similar type of reddish burnt orange, but the China Glaze one is more red hued and the Zoya one is more coppery. I have to say that I really like them both! The color of that China Glaze one is really gorgeous and it looks like it has some great depth in it. Then again, the Zoya one has a quite rustic feel to it and the color is really a perfect fall orange. The quality of both of these is really nice too, they both cover with just two coats. Actually, Bend Over Backwards is almost a one-coater. If I still had OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby, I would have definately included it too to this battle, but I have already sold it quite a while ago as I thought it was too similar to Bend Over Backwards. Though those two aren't really dupes either, I just liked the color of that China Glaze one a bit better and the two were quite close, so I needed to get rid of one of the two.

Final verdict: I'm going to keep both, at least for now!

Then the next battle is between Flormar Jewel Gold JG453 and China Glaze Riveting. And yep, I totally forgot to take the bottle shot before I already sold one of these two, sorry about that! So one of these got to go, but which one?

Riveting has been pretty much my favourite orange polish since I got it as the color is soooo gorgeous and I love the shimmer! I had read that Flormar JG453 was quite similar to Riveting but that those two aren't really dupes, so when I had the chance to get it really cheaply, I decided I wanted to see myself which one I would prefer. As you can see, they really aren't dupes, but they are quite close, so if you're not a total orange polish lover that has to have every single orange shade out there, I'd say you'll only need one of these two. The China Glaze one is a tad darker and it has more shimmer in it, whereas JG453 is somewhat lighter orange with less shimmer in it. Riveting isn't the most opaque one, so you'll need three coats for full coverage, but with JG453 two coats is enough as it is more thicker. I did like them both, but like I said, I really didn't need to keep both of them as they are close enough colorwise to me. I prefer the tad darker hue in Riveting and that gorgeous shimmer too, and as it really is one of my favourite polishes of all time, the decision wasn't really too hard...

Final verdict: Riveting stayed and the Flormar one got to go.

But tell me guys, which ones did you prefer?

*I have originally gotten Zoya Channing for review, the other three polishes I have bought myself. For more information see my disclosure policy.

*****

Tänään taistoon käyvät siis kahdet erilaiset oranssiset lakkaparit. Ensimmäisenä kohtasivat Zoya Channing* ja China Glazen Bend Over Backwards.

*Zoyan Channing on alunperin saatu arvioitavaksi ilmaiseksi, muut kolme lakkaa olen ostanut itse.

31DC13 Day 14: Flowers

I have another challenge mani for you guys today! It's day 14 and so it was time for some flower nails. This time I decided to do this in easy way and use some water decals.

I used I Love Nail Polish Down Comforter as my base color (though you can't really see it too much, I know) and then applied those big flower decals over it. I have gotten these decals from Born Pretty Store for review and they really seemed perfect for this challenge. I have to say that I liked the look that I got with these very much!

These decals were really easy to use also. They did stick on nail quite easily, but you still had time to move them around a bit, so they didn't stick immediately to the spot you put them. They are quite long, so they'll fit nails that are longer than mine. However, I don't think my nails are particularly wide and on some nails these were almost little too narrow.

It was a little bummer that I couldn't get you any pictures of this mani in sunlight as the ILNP Down Comforter did shine a bit trough from those flowers and it gave the mani nice little sparkle.
But like I said, I really liked these very much! The pattern is really cute, the colors are great and the quality of the decals was really great too! These decals come in a set where you have exactly 10 decals, so that if you use them for a full mani, you only get one out of the set. But of course you can only use one for accent nail or something like that and then they'll last longer. The decals I have here are the number 1621 and these cost $2.86, which I'd say is a pretty fair price for such gorgeous design.

Don't forget that you can get 10% off with my code MBL91 and BPS offers free worldwide shipping! I don't gain anything if you use my code, but BPS has promised that they will sponsor a giveaway here in my blog if ten people use the code.

Two years ago my flowery mani for this challenge looked like this:
Back then I managed to do some free hand nail art painting, though it didn't turn out as great as I had tought in my head. You can check out the full post here.

*****

Decalien pohjalla käytin I Love Nail Polishin Down Comforter lakkaa, jonka hento holoisuus kuulti kivasti noiden kukkasten läpi varsinkin kirkkaammassa valaistuksessa, mutta sadepäivästä johtuen en valitettavasti saanut sitä taltioitua kuviin.

Nail Polish Battle: OPI Alcatraz... Rocks vs. IsaDora Chameleon Crush

I have another Nail Polish Battle for you guys today, this time with two gorgeous textured polishes!

So this time the battle is between two purpleish textured polishes from this fall's collections: OPI Alcatraz... Rocks** and IsaDora Chameleon Crush*. I promised to do a comparison between these two and so here it is. These two have some similarities between them but at least in the bottle they do look quite different.

On nail you can also see that they have quite many differences between them. I have two coats of both polishes here, no base or top coat. Both of these have a blue-ish purple base, but in Alcatraz... Rocks it is a bit more blue toned than in Chameleon Crush. The biggest difference between these two is of course the color of the shimmer. Chameleon Crush has that really gorgeous gold shimmer in it and there's quite much of that in the polish. However, the shimmer in Alcatraz... Rocks is quite different, as it is really complex with lots of different colors in it. So the overall look of these isn't really that similar to me and if you are a purple lover like I am, I think it's safe to say that you'll need both of these as they are both really amazing!

Final verdict: Both polishes are very welcome to stay!

*I have gotten IsaDora Chameleon Crush for review. OPI Alcatraz... Rocks was also given to me for free. For more information see my disclosure policy.

*****

Vertailussa siis OPIn Alcatraz... Rocks ja IsaDoran Chameleon Crush. Molemmissa lakoissa on sinertävän violetti pohja, mutta Alcatraz... Rocksin vaikutelma on hieman enemmän siniseen taittava. Rocksin shimmerissä sävyjä on paljon enemmän. Lakat ovat siis ainakin omasta mielestäni tarpeeksi erilaiset sävyltään, joten molemmille löytyy paikka kokoelmastani!

IsaDoran syksyiset Sugar Crush sävyt pitäisi löytyä parhaillaan kaupoista, ja OPIn Alcataz... Rocksin saa tilattua CesarsShopista, josta olen omanikin saanut.

Zoya Charla

I have just a quick post for your guys today with my swatches of Zoya Charla. I know you all have probably seen this polish (and all the dupes of it) ovar and over again, but it's such a pretty one that I just had to share my pictures too. I used this polish as a base color for my stripes nail art, but before I did any of those decorations I wore this for a while by itself and I had to take some pictures of it.

This is a bit sheer one, so I used three coats here with base and top coat. Charla is truly a vivid and so gorgeous color, I just love it! It has been on my wishlist for quite a while and now that I finally have it makes me really happy!

I only did one coat of base coat under this, which I knew could be a bit risky as colors like this can stain your nail really badly. I didn't have blue nails after removing this, but there was a bit of staining on some nails, so if you want to be sure, I'd say you need to wear two coats of base coat under this one. I got rid of the stains pretty easily though (with toothpaste), so it wasn't that big of a deal.

But yeah, it's safe to say that I totally love this one and I'm so happy to have it!

Do you guys own this one or one of its dupes  (like OPI Catch Me In Your Net or Orly Halley's Comet etc.)?

*****

Pikaisesti esittelyssä Zoyan upea sinertävä glass fleck lakka Charla. Kuvissa on kolme kerrosta lakkaa alus- ja päällyslakan kera, eli tämäkin on koostumukselleen tyypillisesti hieman läpikuultava, mutta kolmella ohuella kerroksella saa jo peittävän tuloksen. Sain tämän vihdoinkin ostettua I Love Me -messuilta ja en voisi olla iloisempi!

Löytyykö teidän kokoelmista tämä tai joku niistä jotakuinkin täysin vastaavista lakoista (kuten OPIn Catch Me In Your Net tai Orlyn Halley's Comet jne.)?

31DC13 Day 13: Animal Print

I have another challenge mani for you guys today! It's day 13 and so it was time for some animal print. I wasn't sure what to do for this day as animal prints aren't really my thing that much, but still I had few different ideas of manis that I have never done. Finally I remembered that Sannu did some butterfly wings nail art for this day two years ago and I thought then that it was really a great idea, so I decided to give it a try, also because I haven't yet tried this style!

Yeah, I know, this isn't a traditional animal print, but butterflies are animals, so I think this goes, right?! I started this mani with two coats of KBShimmer Teal Another Tail (I'll show you the swatches some other day!). Then I did a gradient with that KBShimmer polish and Colors by Llarowe polish called Behead the Drama Queen. Then I painted the black lines and the white dots with my Oumaxi acrylic nail paints.

My lines didn't really turn out too great, but then again, butterflies don't have such straight lines either... Lifting weights isn't the best thing to do before you are going to do some meticulous nail art, the hands can be a bit shaky, lol. But I still liked this look very much and this is really something that I have been meaning to do for quite some time already, so I'm really glad that I managed to do this now! I think they at least somewhat remind me of butterfly wings. Though I have to tell you that my bf though these were aqueducts when he saw these before I had added those white dots, lol. It's not the first thing I'd be painting on my nails, but what do I know... :DD

Btw, sorry about those water drops and snow on my nails and hands! It was so dark today that I had to go outside to take these pictures and it was snowing and raining like hell here...

But tell me guys, have you all already tried this butterfly wings style or am I the only one who hadn't tried this yet?

Kynsissä on ensin liukuvärjäys KBShimmerin Teal Another Taililla ja Colors by Llarowen Behead the Drama Queenilla. :)

31DC13 Day 12: Stripes

Today is another day of the challenge and it's day twelve, so it's time for some stripes!

So I started these nails with one coat of base coat and then three coats of Zoya Charla. Then I taped my middle and ring fingers with striping tape and painted Essie Mind Your Mittens (or Parka Perfect, see this post) over those nails. Finally I placed some swarovski crystals on each nail to complete the look. I quite liked how these nails turned out, though those stripes weren't really too perfect...

I have gotten those swarovski crystals for review from Born Pretty Store. These are the first swarovski ones that I have used, before I have had only those cheap rhinestones. I have to say that there's really quite a difference between those two, especially when you put top coat over the crystals/rhinestones. Top coat doesn't really ruin these crystals in any way, they keep their shape and they are as shiny as before the top coat. That isn't really the case with rhinestones, or at least in my experience they seem to look better if you don't use top coat with them... And I usually don't use anything else than top coat to fix those on nail.

The swarovski ones are more expensive than those rhinestone ones, but if you remove them carefully, you can really use them again. The ones that I have here are the clear ones and these are approx. 2.7-2.9mm wide. I think I'll need to get some that are slightly smaller, because my nails are so curved that these were almost a bit too wide.
Don't forget that you can get 10% off with my code MBL91 and BPS offers free worldwide shipping! I don't gain anything if you use my code, but BPS has promised that they will sponsor a giveaway here in my blog if ten people use the code.

Lakkauksen aloitin yhdellä I Love Me -messuilta ostetulla Zoyalla, Charlalla, jonka jälkeen kynsiteippiä ja Essien Mind Your Mittensiä apuna käyttäen tein keskisormen ja nimettömän kynsiin nuo raidat.

Small Hauls from Ebay, Harlow&Co. & Llarowe

Today I have some little hauls to show you guys!

This OPI Mariah Carey Pure 18K White Gold & Silver Top Coat is from Ebay. I'm not really a big gold person, so I didn't get that gold top coat that OPI did last year, but I love white gold & silver, so I just had to have this. I don't also really care too much about Mariah Carey and I kinda wish this was part of some other OPI collection, but oh well... I've heard that some people have had some problems with this one, because in some polishes the base of the polish has been yellowish instead of clear as it should be. Thankfully mine was clear one, so I can use it over lighter colors too! This one wish of course a bit more expensive than a regular polish as it contains real white gold and silver, but it's also a bit more special, so I felt like this was something that I could splurge on just a bit.

Then these two KBShimmer fall collection polishes, Teal Another Tail and Every Nook & Cranberry, are of course from Harlow&Co. I just wanted these two from the fall collection as I'm trying not to buy every single glitter polish & topper out there and these seemed more versitile. I got these in a group order, so I didn't have to order just two polishes alone. They both look so really amazing in the bottle, I can't wait to try them on!

Then last off is my small order from Llarowe. I managed to get two of those Colors by Llarowe polishes before they were discontinued. These are Behead the Drama Queen and Good Fortune. I also really wanted to try those termo polishes by Dance Legend, so I chose couple of those glittery ones that they had in stock. These are numbers 181 and 182. If you are interested to see a sneak peek of the color change these have, I shot couple of short videos to Instagram.

Here's some close-up bottle shots for you guys:
So, did I buy anything interesting? Which ones did you guys like the most?

*****

Onnistuin jopa saamaan molemmat lakat, jotka halusin: Behead the Drama Queenin ja Good Fortunen. Ainakin kuumaan veteen kastettuna toimivat mainiosti... Kuvasin tästä pikku pätkät Instagramiin, joten kannattaa sieltä käydä kurkkimassa.

Oliko yhtään kiinnostavia ostoksia?

KBShimmer I Got A Crush On Blue

I'm continuing with those long lost photos of mine that I finally got back, so today I have you my swatches of KBShimmer I Got A Crush On Blue.

I Got A Crush On Blue has a rich blue jelly base with tons of different sizes of silver holographic glitter. This is really a gorgeous polish, probably my favourite one of all my KBShimmer polishes!

This is a bit sheer because of that jelly base, so if don't want a thick coat of polish, you should probably layer this over some other blue. I have three coats here with base and top coat. I'd say this was easy enough to apply, though you'll have to fish for those big hexes for a bit.

The polish has really gorgeous depth in it because of that blue jelly base and all those glitters. I just love it!

*****

Jatketaan kerran kadotettujen kuvien esittelyllä ja tänään vuorossa siis KBShimmerin ihanainen I Got A Crush On Blue, joka on siis sininen jelly eri kokoisten hopeisten holograafisten glittereiden kera. I Got A Crush On Blue on kuitenkin aivan ihastuttava tapaus, todella kaunis sininen säihkyvine glittereineen!

Maybelline Express Remover Review

Today I have someting little bit different for you guys as I'm doing a review but this time instead of nail polish this is about a nail polish remover product. I got this Maybelline Express Remover can for a review quite a while ago and I did these pictures for this review a while back too, but as I've told you before, my laptop broke and so I lost some pictures. But now I finally have those pictures back and I can write this review!

Normally I use a really cheap nail polish remover that you can buy from a local market/supermarket that only contains acetone and castor oil. I know some say that you shouldn't use acetone on your nails, but I'm not patient enough to use those non-acetone ones and I believe that if you just moisturize proberly after using a nail polish remover, it doesn't really matter which remover your use. But anyhow, this Maybelline one is a acetone free one.

Inside the can looks like this ->
So there's this black sponge inside and you are supposed just to stick your finger in there and with one dip the remover promises to remove your nail polish. Of course the sponge is covered with nail polish remover and there's also some loose fluid at the bottom of the can (so be careful not to spill it like I did).

The smell of this one is really strong. If you ask me, it really smells like it would have acetone in it, which it doesn't. But yeah, if you are sensitive to smells, this isn't probably for you. However, I didn't find the smell too bothering as pretty much all the nail polish removers stink.

Also, I want to state that if you have a problem with seeing yellowish nails, then you can stop reading here as my nails are quite yellow! This doesn't really bother me too much as I do wear nail polish all the time, so you can't really tell they are yellow.

I used this to remove three different manicures and took some pictures to demonstrate the removal.
First I have this glittery polish with creme base (the polish is Cadillaquer Remember Me and you can check my post about the mani here). I deliverately didn't want to try to remove straight on glitter polish with this one as I'd use the foil method for those kind of polishes in any case, but I wanted to see how this would handle a polish that still has quite a bit of glitter in it.

Here I had a base coat, three coats of the glittery polish, top coat and even a matte top coat, so total of six coats of polish (quite a lot!)

First I did the one dip with a one swirl around (because to be honest, one dip to anything wouldn't really do anything to six coats of polish). Soo, with this some of that creme base (and of course the coats of top coats) already came of, but there's still quite a much of polish and all those glitters left.

Couple more swirls and the nail looks like this. So pretty much all but those larger glitters and some of those smaller ones have come off. This is quite usual situation when removing polishes that have glitter in, you get everything else off but those glitters stick on the nail real hard.

So, I sticked my finger in to the can, left it there just a little while and then swirled couple of times. That really got rid of all those glitters. So one dip didn't really do anything, but I'd say this still did quite a good job of removing a glittery polish and it didn't really take that much time. Of course you have to do each nail separately, but as there isn't any mess (because everything stays in the can) you can easily do this anywhere, like for example when you're watching tv.

Then I tried it with another mani:
Here I have two coats of Zoya Godiva with base coat (you can read the full post of this mani here). It's a textured polish, but there's no big glitters or anything like that in it. So I had total of three coats of polish here.

With only one swirl the polish looked like this. So some polish has already come off, but there still quite much left.

Then couple of swirls more and pretty much everything came off. There still a little bit of those shimmers around the cuticle area and the easiest thing to get rid of those is to use a regular nail polish and cotton wipe. So I'd say with this mani the removal was really easy and quite effortless.

And then the third mani:
So this was a mani with Mavala Roma and some nail foil (you can check the full post here). I had here base coat, two coats of the polish, couple coats of top coat, the nail foil and another coat of top coat. So again total of six coats of polish plus that nail foil. Red nail polishes can be sometimes hard to remove if they are really pigmented as they tend to stain your skin, so let's see what happens here...

I started with couple of swirls because I thought one wouldn't do the job, and well, that nearly removed all the polish. Also, I didn't have no staining whatsoever.

One swirl more and everything came off! So again, the removal was really quick and really effortless!

So overall this Maybelline Express Remover worked quite well, though it really didn't remove the polish with just one dip like it promised, but then again, if you'd have just one coat of polish and no base or top coat (which I of course don't recommend) then the one dip promise might just be true. Also, eventhough the smell of the remover is really strong if you smell it straight from the can, the smell doens't stick to you nails or skin. Actually, they smell quite good after using this, but of course you need to wash your hands after using a nail polish remover...

BUT I have couple of problems with this one. First off, this isn't really a remover that lasts long as if you use it to remove anything else than creme polishes (glitters, shimmers and so on), all that stuff sticks to the sponge and when you use it over and over again, soon the sponge is full of those glitters and such. Also, that sponge isn't the most long-lasting one, because after just couple of uses I started to get little black particles all over my fingers and nails when using this. This happens especially if you use it to remove glitter polishes. The biggest problem though that I have is the price. I'm not sure how much this exactly costs in a store, but I think it's something between six to eight euros which is really quite much if you ask me! My regular polish remover costs under two euros and as a nail polish addict, I use quite a much nail polish remover, so the price of this Maybelline one is just too high for me. I still think it's a quite handy thing in some situations, but I won't be using it on regular basis.
